Ann / アン

Infinite approach to the sun is equivalent to infinitely hurting yourself.
(太陽に無限に近づくことは、自分を無限に傷つけることと同じ。)

(暗闇に落ちる。)

I woke up from the darkness looking at each other’s eyes.
(私は暗闇から目覚め、お互いに目を見つめあった。)

The flowing blood was saying: You should not love the sun
(流れる血はこう言った。「神を愛するべきではない」)

Since then, I decided to become the sun to punish those who want to approach the truth
(それから私は太陽になると決めたのだ。真理に近づこうとする者たちを罰するために。)

 

アンは神を信じる敬虔なシスターだったようですね。

それにも関わらず闇に落ち、信仰を断ち、自分が神になると言っています。

彼女に何が起こったのでしょう？

 

キャラクターのバックストーリー

以下、日本語で書かれたアンのバックストーリーをこちらからお借りし、私が英語訳を付けました。

Ann caught a strange disease, and this made her eyes look different from the eyes of ordinary people.
(アンは奇妙な病気にかかり、目が普通の人とは明らかに違う、異常なものになってしまいました。)

Unfortunately, word moved around that her eyes were “the devil’s eyes” because a plague spread at the same time. Some people even began to advocate her execution.
(不幸なことに、同時期に疫病が蔓延したので、彼女の目は「悪魔の目」という噂が広がり、彼女を処刑すべきだという意見も出てくるようになりました。)

The epidemic took her parents away. That pushed Ann into a mental breakdown so much that she also started to suspect “My eyes may be the devil”.
(疫病で彼女の両親は他界し、アンは、「自分の目は悪魔ではないか」と疑うほど精神的に追い詰められていきました。)

One night.
(そして、ある夜。)

She went to the church to seek for peace. But there, her heart was pierced by a wooden stake, and her dying body was thrown away in the wilderness.
(彼女が安らぎを求めて教会に行くと、木の杭が彼女の心臓に突き刺さり、瀕死状態のまま荒野に捨てられてしまいます。)

On the brink of death, she felt that there were eyes watching her, and she thought that those eyes were something special. She, however, was not sure if that was her salvation or her own dark emotion.
(アンが亡くなる寸前、彼女を見つめる特別な目を感じましたが、それは救いなのか、どす黒い感情なのか分かりませんでした。)

 

通名と職業を英語で

Alias（通名）：Ann（アン）
Career（職業）：Apostle（使徒）

まず、使徒はキリスト教やイスラム教で使われる言葉で、宗教色の強い言葉です。

どちらも教義を広める使命を与えられた弟子たちの事を指し、神の使いのような意味合いで使われます。

英語ではApostle、Discipleという言葉が使われます。

どちらにも信念や教え、知識等を広める人という意味合いがあります。

詳しく違いを説明すると、Apostleは人や信念、教えを強く信じていて、それを広めようとしている人を指します。

Discipleは指導者や賢者、教師など偉い人の教え子として知識や教えを広めようとしている人を指します。

Apostleは、キリスト教の聖書に出てくる十二使徒を指すことが多いです。

イエス・キリストは福音を伝えるために最初に12人の弟子を選んだそうなのですが、この12人の弟子たちの事を日本語では十二使徒、英語ではThe Twelve Disciples, The Twelve Apostlesと言います。

 

キャラクターのスキルと特徴

Ann has a black cat on her side, which helps her capture survivors. The cat was born from dark shadow, and it ignores some laws of physics.
(アンの傍には黒猫がおり、サバイバーを捕まえる手伝いをしてくれる。猫は暗影から生まれていて、物理法則を無視して行動できる。)

Ann can command the cat to search for survivors. On the 1st command, the cat starts running straight, going through all the objects in the way. On the 2nd command, the cat separates itself into two, and the 2 cats start searching left and right.
(アンは猫にサバイバーを探すよう命令することができる。最初の命令で、猫は障害物を全てすり抜けつつ真っ直ぐに走り出す。次の命令で猫は体を2つに分裂させ、左右の方向を探し始める。)

When the cat comes across a survivor, it bites and attaches itself to the survivor. If Ann comes close to the survivor, he/she gets stunned as well as other survivors in a certain range by the cat’s skill so that Ann can hit them.
(猫がサバイバーに出くわすと、サバイバーに噛みつき一緒に行動します。アンがそのサバイバーに近づくと、アンが攻撃できるように、そのサバイバーと一定の距離内の他のサバイバー達が猫の能力でスタンさせられる。)

サバイバーの動きを予想して猫を放たなければいけないため、猫の動かし方に慣れるまでは難しそうです。

After the presence achieves the 1st level, Ann can leap towards the nearest cat. Also, survivors near the running cat can be seen in Ann’s view.
(存在感が1になると、アンは猫のいる方向に飛べるようになる。また、走っている猫の近くにいるサバイバーがアンの視界に見えるようになる。)

After gaining the 2nd level of presence, Ann can place a cross and the cat comes back and stays there. If a survivor comes near the cat, it bites the survivor.
(存在感が2になると、アンが十字架を建てれるようになり、そこに猫が戻ってきて滞在する。猫の近くにサバイバーが来ると、サバイバーに噛みつく。)

例えば、ロケットチェア付近に猫を待機させておくと救助狩りがしやすくなります。

サバイバー側にとっては非常に注意が必要です。
